At Team CHD Tennessee, we are dedicated to providing support and resources for families affected by congenital heart disease (CHD) throughout the state of Tennessee.
Sabrina's Story
Sabrina Dodd is Co-Founder and President, and also mom to two heart warriors, Dakota diagnosed with pulmonary stenosis at five weeks old, and Brody diagnosed with pulmonary stenosis and aortic insufficiency at ten days old. Sabrina is also mom to one heart healthy daughter, Emma.
Sabrina has been active in the CHD community since shortly after her boys were diagnosed. In the early days of their journey, she struggled with the lack of information, understanding, and resources for CHD parents, which drove her desire to be a part of building a support structure for families coming down the line. Over the last 19 years she has worked in various volunteer roles with multiple organizations tied to supporting CHD families.
When the opportunity arose in late-2023 to team up with Carrie to form Team CHD Tennessee, she knew it was what they were meant to do. Sabrina is honored to continue supporting all of our TN families and truly believes it has been pivotal in her own healing journey.
Carrie's Story
Carrie Deaton is Co-Founder and Treasurer, as well as proud mom to two beautiful boys Elliot, who is her heart warrior, and Andrew, who is heart healthy.
Carrie didn't know anything about CHD until their son, Elliot, was diagnosed with Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF) in June 2019 when she was 19 weeks pregnant. It felt like a gut punch, and she felt she needed to connect with other parents who had gone through this and received the news that "there is something wrong with your child's heart".
Carrie connected with a local organization for support and knew she wanted to become more involved. She hopes Team CHD Tennessee can continue to be a resource for families navigating new CHD diagnosis, hospital stays, life outside of the hospital, and remembering those that CHD took from us too soon.
